Toyota has revealed a limited edition GR86 will arrive before the end of the year.

Just 86 examples will be offered, with a raft of tuning enhancements to enhance the car’s already dynamic handling characteristics.

The limited edition is finished in a unique colour called Forest Shadow, with styling tweaks and upgraded suspension and brake package as standard.

Modifications to the full GR86 range include changes to the damper characteristics to deliver a better sense of contact with the ground while the electric power steering has been retuned to provide intuitive handling and responsiveness with improved feel at higher levels of performance.

Manual versions benefit from engine torque and throttle control changes, providing more direct responsiveness to accelerator pedal input. The changes have enabled sporty driving.

For automatic versions of the GR86, the engine-speed tolerance range during downshifting has been expanded, enabling sporty driving supported by a wider torque band.

For those looking for an even higher performance GR86, the new Limited Edition is based on the top-of-the-range GR86 GTS and features standard fitment of the Dynamic Performance Pack that adds ZF Sachs sports dampers and Brembo brakes.

ZF Sachs dampers achieve linear damping characteristics in accordance with piston speed. This provides comfort in everyday driving and agile handling in sports driving.

Stopping power has also been improved with red-painted Brembo four-piston calipers on the front and two-piston calipers on the rear, replacing the standard GTS’ two-piston front/single-piston rear setup.

Complementing the unique green, the GR86 Limited Edition features a set of unique 18-inch bronze alloy wheels.

Inside, the sporty cabin features stylish black and tan Ultrasuede and leather-accented upholstery and trim.

All GR86 models are powered by a 2.4-litre horizontally-opposed four-cylinder engine that generates maximum outputs of 174kW of power and 250Nm of torque, which together with the sports-tuned chassis and limited-slip Torsen rear diff, make this a car perfect for track-day outings.

Drive to the rear wheels is through a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmissions that offer a range of drive modes to tailor performance to the driving environment.

Toyota’s Sean Hanley said the upgraded GR86 builds upon the performance of the current model offering customers an even more dynamic, affordable sports car.

More information and pricing will be provided closer to launch in late 2024.
