Toyota is celebrating the 10th anniversary of its popular 86 sports car with the release of a 10th Anniversary Limited Edition.
Limited to just 86 examples locally, it arrives in Australian showrooms this month priced from $46,700 plus on-road costs.
Based on the flagship GTS variant, the 10th Anniversary Edition GR86 is immediately identifiable by its unique Solar Orange exterior paint scheme — a nod to the original “hachi roku” first revealed to the world in late 2011.
The orange theme continues inside the vehicle, with contrast stitching applied to the steering wheel, handbrake lever and boot, shift boot, seats and door trim.
Orange stripe accents also appear on the Ultrasuede/leather accented seats, while the inside of the door trims feature 10th Anniversary orange embroidery for a special touch.
Lastly, silver instrument panel moulding has been changed to black for a stealthier look.
GR86 10th Anniversary Edition is available with the choice of either a six-speed manual or automatic transmissions to suit buyer preference.
It is powered by a 2.4-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine that develops 174kW of power at 7000 rpm and 250Nm of torque at 3700 rpm, with power transmitted to the rear wheels.
Driving dynamics are aided by a standard limited-slip Torsen diff on the rear axle.
Five different vehicle stability control settings are available ranging from full support to being completely switched off, for those who plan to take their GR86 to track days.
GR86 10th Anniversary Edition comes with a generous equipment list including 18-inch black alloy wheels, adaptive LED headlights, heated front seats, aluminium pedals, an 8.0-inch multimedia display, 7.0-inch multi-information display and two-zone automatic climate control.
GAZOO Racing Club members will be given priority access for expressions of interest when ordering the car.
Toyota’s Sean Hanley said the addition of the 10th Anniversary Edition reflects the popularity of the driver-focused sports car in Australia.
“When it launched in 2012, the first-generation 86 struck a chord with those looking for an affordable sports car representing great value with Toyota reliability,” he said.
“This new 10th Anniversary Edition channels the spirit of the original 86 while introducing a range of unique design touches, along with all upgrades that the GR86 delivered when we launched it last year.”
