EX30 Volvo’s smallest EV yet

Riley Riley

Confirming the adage, Good things come in small packages, Volvo’s latest EV (and its smalllest to date) packs a punch.

Priced from $59,990, the EV30 will be offered in three versions: two with a single electric motor and a third high performance model with two electric motors.

Single motor versions offer 200kW of power and 343Nm of torque; Twin Motor Performance delivers 315kW and 543Nm.

A 69kWh high-voltage 400V lithium-ion battery is common to all three.

Single motor variants have an estimated range of up to 480km; the twin motor up to 460km (WLTP).

With a commercial DC charger, both can be charged from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes.

As the most sustainable Volvo ever produced, the leather-free interior of EX30 incorporates recycled and renewable materials.

These include flax, wool and denim upholstery created from the waste fibres of the denim recycling process.

These new materials add creative textures, colour and personality to the cabin which features a minimalist dashboard equipped with 12.3-inch tablet style screen.

Volvo’s distinctive ‘Thor’s Hammer’ signature headlights have been updated with a segmented design, extra width and narrower look.

The rear lights have also been updated, with two sections that sit flush with the body and help make the car more visible in all light conditions.

A large fixed panoramic glass roof provides a spacious and airy feel inside the car.

EX30 introduces the soundbar speaker concept as standard.

The soundbar integrates tweeters, mid-range speakers and a woofer in a stylish audio unit that extends the full width of the dashboard in front of occupants.

Bringing home audio design to the car, the soundbar makes the audio more driver focused than ever and is an important part of the car’s modern interior design.

The design also frees up valuable space in the doors while reducing weight and material resources.

The new 12.3-inch tablet display features Google built-in apps and services that are as intuitive to use as a smartphone.

Wireless Apple CarPlay gives convenient in-car access to favourite iPhone apps to navigate, make calls, receive and answer messages and enjoy music.

EX30 always remains up to date with over-the-air updates.

Near Field Communication (NFC) technology gives the driver full access to the vehicle via smartphone.

To gain access and drive off all the driver needs to do is downloaded a digital key and swipe the phone over the NFC readers.

EX30 also comes with all the safety features that you would expect from Volvo.

There’s three models from which to choose: Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Plus ($59,990), Volvo EX30 Single Motor Extended Ultra ($64,990) and Volvo EX30 Twin Performance Ultra ($69,990).
