Maserati Project24 worth the weight

Riley Riley

Maserati’s Project24 is a lighter, more powerful, track-targeted version of the MC20 supercar.

A state-of-the-art V6 Nettuno engine adds a set of new turbochargers that boost power output to from 463 to 552kW.

It also gets a new six-speed sequential race gearbox instead of the MC20’s eight-speed dual-clutch tranny.

A mechanical limited-slip diff replaces the electronic one.

There’s also adjustable suspension, carbon-ceramic brakes and tyres tuned for racing, along with FIA-approved safety features.

Designed with weight reduction in mind, the target weight of the new Project24 (the codename at this stage) was less than 1250kg — that’s 250kg less than the donor vehicle.

Designed by Centro Stile Maserati, the Project24 has a completely new look and body made from carbon-fibre body with some components made of natural fibres.

This time, Maserati design pushes the boundaries to the limits, free of the constraints usually seen in a race car.

The result is something never seen before, combining beauty with genuine sporty capabilities, ensuring it will become an instant collector’s item.

Highlights include F1 inspired aerodynamics and new ultra thin, trident-shaped LED tail lights and high-mounted tail pipes.

Inside there’s a six-point race harness and race seat, carbon-fibre steering wheel and adjustable pedal box.

The passenger seat is optional.

With race style centre-lock rims and slicks, options include on-board telemetry and in-car cameras and air jacks for quick tyre changes.

Maserati says Project24 is the emblem of exclusivity and will offer a unique range of services, including track-specific experiences and state-of-the-art support, exclusively for owners.

Just 60 examples of the car will be offered.
