Judith’s Citroen ‘seeks’ new home

Riley Riley

Back in the day Judith Durham and The Seekers were bigger than The Beatles, with 50 million album sales worldwide..

They were the first Australian group to achieve major chart and sales success in the UK and the United States.

The cult of celebrity dictates that anything associated with the group attracts plenty of interest and that includes a 1971 Citroen that lead singer Judith Durham and her husband Ron once owned.

The couple bought the DS21 Pallas Sedan new in Paris in 1971 and then toured Europe.

It will be auctioned by Shannons in Melbourne on April 29.

The car was looking a little worse for wear until a Citroen enthusiast turned its fortunes around two years ago.

In his hands, the former French beauty has undergone a thorough and extensive makeover, with any rust removed when the bodyshell was stripped back before being repainted in its original Peacock Blue metallic.

At the time its supple black leather upholstery was renewed with correct imported hides, while new carpets, door cards and roof lining completed the return of its interior to its former opulence.

Apart from its high profile history, a rare distinguishing feature of this DS21 Pallas is its renewed Webasto sunroof, while its 2175cc fuel-injected four-cylinder engine and its advanced hydraulically-activated four-speed semi-automatic transmission both remain in good condition.

Beautifully presented, it is ready to use as a daily driver, on family weekend outings.

The bad news is that It won’t be going for a ‘song’.

With its desirable specification and comprehensive restoration, this famous DS21 Pallas is expected to sell for $40,000 – $48,000.
