Chinese electric car maker NIO has buddied up with the gaming brand Razer.
The first offspring of this pairing is the NIO ES6 Night Explorer Limited Edition that will make its debut at the 2019 ChinaJoy.
Only 88 examples of the Night Explorer will be produced.
It’s built on the NIO ES6 Performance Edition, equipped with NIO Pilot, NOMI Mate, enhanced displays and other hi-tech appointments.
These familiar NIO markers are complemented by an exclusive Razer design package that includes the classic Razer logo and trim, carbon fibre decals, green calipers, a custom rear emblem and design package.
The starting price of the NIO ES6 Night Explorer Limited Edition Vehicle is 467,800 Chinese yuan (about 100,000 Australian dollars).
NIO was founded in November 2014 as a global electric vehicle company.
The company has over 9000 employees working across world-class research and development, design and manufacturing centres in Shanghai, Beijing, San Jose, Munich, London and seven other locations.
In 2015, NIO was the title sponsor for the Drivers’ Championship winning team during the inaugural ABB FIA Formula E season.
NIO and Razer are devoted to creating a car dedicated to the influx of eSports players and enthusiasts.
The two companies plant to explore the integration of Razer Chroma and Hue Lights and THX Spatial Audio with existing automotive technologies.
They say this will bring better quality and driving experiences to the discerning customer base of gamers through immersive ambient lighting effects and innovatively enhanced in-vehicle audio.
With a range of 510km, the NIO ES6 Performance Edition has got what it takes to take the fight up to Tesla that dominates the EV scene.
With a maximum power output of 406kW, it can accelerate from 0-100km/h in 4.7 seconds and has a top speed of 200km/h, and with four-piston Brembos has a braking distance of 33.9 metress from 100-0km/h.
In a world first the ES6 has two electric motors: a 160kW permanent magnet motor (PM) that is responsible for low to medium speed daily driving, plus a 240kW induction motor (IM) that delivers greater speed and acceleration when needed.
