Hand of God: Pernell makes a pact

Riley Riley

Pernell Harris is a man in despair.

His only son PJ is on life support. Brain dead.

He apparently shot himself after being forced to watch the rape of his wife.

A corrupt San Vicente judge, Pernell turns to God and the born-again pastor of a church called the Hand of God.

He soon realises that the Reverend Paul Curtis (Julian Morris) and his partner Alicia Hopkins (Elizabeth McLaughlin) are more interested in money than the welfare of their flock.

Pernell believes that God is speaking to him through his comatose son.

He is convinced that if he finds who raped Jocelyn (Alona Tal), PJ will make a miraculous recovery.

He enlists the help of violent ex-con and born again Christian KD (Garret Dillahunt) after letting him off lightly in court.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn has said her goodbyes and believes it is time to turn off PJ’s life support.

She receives support from PJ’s buddy and business partner Ray Kelly (Guy Burnet).

Pernell fights to keep his son alive.

Those around the increasingly erratic judge believe he has had a mental breakdown and that he is suffering from hallucinations. More to the point, that he is just plain crazy.

Starring Ron Perlman as Pernell Harris and Dana Delany as his wife Crystal, Hand of God is an American drama television series created by Ben Watkins.

Although it’s now 10 years old, if you haven’t seen caught up with the series, it’s still as fresh as yesterday — different, dramatic and compelling — and definitely bingeworthy.

Ron Perlman is as always superb while Dana Delany as his wife Crystal still looks amazing.

The critics bagged out Hand of God on it;s release, all that is except for Tirdad Derakhshani of The Philadelphia Inquirer the one reviewer who had the courage to break from the pack and write: “It’s such an engaging, original, quirky, and thought-provoking drama, it should be seen.”

You can catch Hand of God on Amazon Prime.

There’s two seasons and 20 x 60-minute episodes in all.
