Kia’s EV6 GT has been recognised by Time magazine as one of the Best Inventions of 2023.
The annual list, which has been compiled for over two decades, features 200 extraordinary innovations, including new products and ideas, that Time editors have identified as “changing our lives.”
Time describes the EV6 GT as a “stand-out” EV.
At this point, EVs are often either very expensive or pretty mediocre, it says.
Kia’s EV6 GT, named the 2023 World Performance Car at the World Car Awards, is neither.
At roughly half the price of EVs with comparable power, the EV6 GT goes from zero to 100 in 3.5 seconds, has a top speed of 260km/h, and even includes a “drift mode,” which shifts power to the rear and outside wheels to help you slide sideways, Fast and the Furious-style.
“This isn’t your grandma’s golf cart,” says Kia chief operating officer Steve Center. “This is a screamer.”
Center said the EV6 GT defied expectations by combining Kia’s Opposites United design philosophy and focus on sustainable mobility with supercar power and performance.
“Building on the momentum from Kia America being the only automotive company in the US named to the 2023 Time 100 List of Most Influential Companies, we are honoured by this latest recognition for the most powerful Kia production vehicle ever,” he said.
To compile the list, nominations are collected from Time’s editors and correspondents around the world, and through an online application process, paying special attention to growing fields — such as AI, green energy and sustainability.
The editors then evaluate each contender on a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition and impact.
The result is a list of 200 groundbreaking inventions, along with 50 special mentions that are changing how we live, work, play, and think about what’s possible — including the world’s most powerful supercomputer, a game-changing entertainment venue, and a new shape.
Earlier this year, the Kia EV6 GT won the coveted 2023 World Performance Car award.
With 430kW, a 3.5-second 0-100km/h acceleration time and a top speed of 260km/h, the all-electric EV6 GT’s long-range capability, spacious interior, and sophisticated design saw it beat stiff competition from more traditional petrol-powered sports cars.
