You could blow your money with this Maybach

Maybach (now Mercedes-Maybach), offers four model lines in Australia: GLS, S-Class, EQS and the SL roadster.

And believe it or not, the SL priced from $490,000, is the cheapest and by far and away most desirable of the bunch — that’s driveaway thanks.

Wind in your hair, provided you still have any by the time you can afford one — is absolutely free.

The V8-powered SL 680 (yes, apparently they still make and sell V8s) is the new flag bearer of the open-top range.

It blends refined comfort and bespoke details with formidable performance to deliver a unique, luxurious motoring experience.

At the heart is a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 that produces 430kW of power and 800Nm of torque, with power to all four wheels via the fully variable 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system.

The result is a blistering 4.1 seconds for the dash from 0–100km/h.

SL 680 offers Maybach-specific chassis tuning, prioritising ride comfort and refinement while maintaining dynamic capability.

Beyond the performance, it features Active Ride Control suspension and rear-axle steering with up to 2.5 degrees of steering angle, combining agility and stability.

The drive is enhanced by a Speedshift MCT 9G transmission with a dedicated Maybach drive programme.

Ride comfort and handling precision are aided by dynamic engine mounts and an electronically controlled rear axle locking differential.

A front axle lift system is also fitted to assist with steep driveways and speed humps.

Standard metallic paint finishes include Garnet Red and Opalite White Magno, both carefully selected to complement the vehicle’s contrasting black bonnet treatment.

But if you don’t fancy either of these, there are more than 50 high-end paint options, but no price mentioned..

That patterned bonnet however adds $16,900 to the price.

The intricate pattern is precisely printed on the bonnet via a PixelPaint process, technology that enables customised patterns and designs to be applied directly to the bodywork with incredible precision.

The bonnet is then coated twice more with clearcoat and sanded by hand until the final clearcoat finish is applied, giving the pattern an extraordinary depth effect.

The radiator shell is illuminated and carries vertical struts with integrated “Maybach” lettering, while the bonnet features a central chrome strip and upright Mercedes three-pointed star (not very pedestrian-friendly).

High-gloss chrome elements extend to the side sills, windscreen surround and front apron, and the insulated acoustic fabric soft top carries a subtle Maybach pattern.

Digital Light headlights with rose gold detailing and Maybach emblems, while puddle lights project a Maybach motif when the doors are opened.

Meh.

Inside Nappa leather upholstery is complemented by a microfibre roof liner and bespoke trim detailing.

Burmester 3D surround sound features 17 speakers and 1220 watts of output.

The sports seats feature a new floral upholstery layout with embossed Maybach emblems, while deep pile mats with “Maybach” lettering, silver chrome trim elements and illuminated door sills further distinguish the interior.

Technology revolves around an 11.9-inch MBUX central display with extended functions, augmented reality navigation and 5G connectivity.

Head-up display and 64-colour ambient lighting allow owners to personalise the interior.

Standard equipment includes the Energizing Package Plus, climatised front seats and multicontour seats with massage functions.

In addition, Guard 360° Vehicle Protection Plus provides enhanced security and monitoring for added peace of mind.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 will set you back $490,045.35 driveaway.
