Looks like German sports car maker Wiesmann is back in business.
The luxury, hand -built sports cars maker is getting set to reveal a brand new model in 2020.
Codenamed Project Gecko, the car will be engineered and built at the original Wiesmann factory in Dülmen, Germany.
The Wiesmann brand was founded by brothers Martin and Friedhelm Wiesmann in 1988.
It produced some truly amazing cars powered by BMW engines before it went bust in 2014.
But never say never because Wiesmann is poised to make a comeback with new owners at the wheel — brothers Roheen and Sahir Berry.
Project Gecko is the fruition three years of work by the team of engineers and designers.
It’s the perfect mix of continuity and contemporary, with many of the design elements that earned the Wiesmann MF5 a cult following.
With much of the brand’s iconic design DNA, the look will be familiar to Wiesmann fans, while remaining true to its ideals of building pure drivers’ cars.
The new model will be front mid-engined and rear-wheel drive, with perfect 50:50 weight distribution.
Power comes from BMW M’s TwinPower Turbo V8, continuing the historic partnership between Wiesmann and BMW.
The Wiesmann team has worked hard to improve the drive and modernise key features, using cutting-edge technologies to bring the car up to the latest standards — so it conforms to regulations in key markets.
More technical details will be revealed over the coming months.
As with previous Wiesmann models, the new car will be hand -built at the original Dülmen factory with several members of the original team involved in the project.
Wiesmann will be targeting buyers who want a unique, premium sports car with real stand-out qualities.
“This last true independent manufacturer of German sports cars is back and has an exciting future to look forward to,” Roheen Berry said.
“When we set out on this journey we said we wanted to re-engineer an icon and we are on track to do exactly that.”
