Hot on the heels of the compact Omodo 5 SUV, Chery Australia has revealed details of a second larger SUV called the Tiggo 7 Pro.
Apart from a forgettable period from 2011-2017 when it tried to sell a small hatch, Chery is all but unknown here.
That’s certainly not the case elsewhere in the world.
It’s the ninth-largest car maker in China and the country’s largest exporter of passenger vehicles, including more than three million Tiggos.
The Tiggo 7 Pro seats five and three variants will be offered here: Urban, Elite and Ultimate, with driveaway prices of $39,990, $41,990 and $45,990 respectively.
Urban and Elite are front-wheel drive, Ulitimate is AWD.
All variants are powered by a 1.6-litre Euro VI-compliant turbo-petrol engine delivering 137kW of power at 5500 rpm and 275Nm of torque at 2000 rpm.
Transmission is through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.
Fuel consumption is listed at 7.0L/100km with CO2 emissions of 163g/km on the combined cycle.
There’s an excellent range of standard equipment across the range with the entry-level Urban coming with eight airbags, LED exterior lighting, panoramic sunroof, dual zone climate control, twin 12.3-inch instrument and multimedia screens, heated front seats, ambient interior lighting, 18 advanced driver aid systems, embedded satellite navigation and an eight-speaker Sony sound system.
Additional features in the $41,990 drive-away Elite include a 360-degree camera, auto-folding mirrors, powered tailgate, air quality management system and negative ion air freshener.
Top-spec Ultimate ($45,990 driveaway) adds all-wheel drive, 19-inch alloys, six drive modes (Eco/Sport/Normal/Snow/Mud/Off-road), red front brake calipers, memory mirrors and driver’s seat, auto-dimming rear view mirror and ventilated front seats.
Tiggo is 4513mm long, 1862mm wide and 1696mm high which places it at the smaller end of the mid-sized SUV range.
There is excellent boot space with 626 litres with all seats in place and up to 1672 litres with the rear seats folded flat.
Both the standard warranty and roadside assistance are for seven years with unlimited kilometres.
Pre-sales for the Tiggo 7 Pro are open now with the first 500 customers who place an order during the pre-sales phase (up to October 20, 2023), will receive free scheduled servicing for three years or 30,000km.
