Porsche adds cheaper 911 to range

Riley Riley

Porsche has introduced a new, entry level version of its iconic 911 sports car.

You can pick the Carrera from its smaller wheels and brakes and the individual tailpipe covers of the exhaust system.

The Carrera Coupé and Cabriolet generates 283 kW of power from its twin turbo 3.0-litre, six-cylinder boxer engine, 11kW more than its predecessor.

The extra power is generated mainly through the smaller wheel diameters of the turbines and compressors that feature in the new turbochargers.

Power transmission is handled by the new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (PDK).

This enables the 911 Carrera Coupé to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 4.2 seconds, with a top speed of 293 km/h.

The optional Sport Chrono Package shaves a further 0.2 seconds off the sprint.

Combined fuel consumption is a claimed 9.0 L/100 km, while the Cabriolet records this figure as 9.2 l/100 km.

Carrera featues 19 inch front and 20 inch rear wheels, with 235/40 ZR and 295/35 ZR tyres respectively.

Stopping power is provided by 330mm brakes front and back, with black, four-piston monobloc fixed callipers.

It shares its premium-quality standard features virtually unchanged from the 911 Carrera S.

These include the high quality interior with 10.9-inch touchscreen display, comprehensive connectivity and also innovative assistance systems like the Porsche Wet Mode that ensures even safer handling on — you guessed it — wet roads.

The new Porsche Carrera is priced from $240,000 — $25,000 cheaper than the Carrera S.
