Old cars and some not so old classics are fetching millions in the United States.
A 1930 Bugatti topped the list of sales at Mecum’s second annual collector-car auction, going for over $1 million US dollars plus small change.
In all 667 vehicles went under the hammer a the Las Vegas event bringing in a total that exceeded $25 million.
The headline Academy of Art University collection produced 31 sales with a total take of $4 million, with three cars from the collection taking the top three slots.
As well as the 1930 Bugatti Type 46 Faux Cabriolet with coachwork by Veth & Zoon, a 1930 Duesenberg Model J Dual Cowl Phaeton came in second and a 1934 Packard 1104 Super 8 Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton claimed the third spot.
Other top sales included a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda that brought $220,000 and Ardell Brown’s 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet, which sold for $203,500.
In total, the complete Ardell Brown Estate Collection of vehicles and Road Art sold for well in excess of $5 million.

- 1935 Pierce-Arrow Model 1245 Silver Arrow (Lot S93.1) at $214,500
- 1930 Cord L-29 Cabriolet (Lot S72) at $203,500
- 2012 Terradyne Gurkha RPV Armoured Vehicle (Lot F196) at $198,000
- 1999 Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster (Lot S183.1) at $187,000
- 1959 Volkswagen Deluxe 23-Window Bus (Lot F163) at $181,500
Mecum’s next auction featuring 700 vehicles will be in Kansas City, Missouri, from December 6-8.
