Citroen concept a magic carpet ride

Riley Riley

French brand Citroen is noted for its unique suspension systems and its soon to be presented 19_19 Concept is the ultimate expression of this technology.

Marking the company’s 100th anniversary, the latest concept embodies its vision of extended mobility, prioritising comfort, electric power and autonomous driving.

With a 340kW electric motor, 0-100km/h in five seconds, a top speed of 200kmh and range of 800km, the 19_19 Concept has been described as an automotive “UFO” and a living room on wheels.

It rides on huge, 30 inch oversized wheels with skinny rubber developed specially by Goodyear.

The Concept takes comfort to a whole new level, with a cabin suspended on Progressive Hydraulic Cushions combined with smart, active control.

The transparent cabin draws on the world of aviation for its inspiration, resembling the cabin of a helicopter.

Inside the unique layout has been inspired by the world of interior design, with individual, cocoon-like seats that each provide a different ride experience.

Comfort is enhanced through the absence of noise and vibration.

Passengers can read a book or magazine, play a video game, order a meal, listen to and share music, and watch a film.

They can even drive if that is okay with the driver.

Or the car is capable of operating fully autonomously.

In this car Citroen says the the driver no longer takes pride of place in the cabin.

With an emphasis on artificial intelligence, the concept is equipped with a personal assistant built in to the dashboard that takes control of the vehicle during autonomous driving phases and interacts with passengers via a predictive and proactive system that anticipates the needs of each occupant.

The 19_19 Concept will be revealed as a World Premiere at Viva Tech in Paris on May, 16.
