Service with some stars and stripes

Riley Riley

The American auto chain Quick Lane Tyre & Auto Centre has opened its first store in Australia.

Owned by Ford, it has more than 1100 outlets across the world, including two in China.

Apart from tyres and fixed price servicing, one of the big drawcards is that no appointment is necessary.

Bring it in and they’ll fit you in.

Quick Lane was launched by the Ford Motor Company as a pilot program in 1997.

Based in Dearborn, Michigan, some stores are stand-alone operations while others are attached to Ford dealerships.

It was conceived as a way for dealers to pick up extra business when vehicle warranties have run out.

Quick Lane uses smart technology and a comprehensive diagnostic system that allows technicians to provide services for all vehicle makes and models.

The smart technology also provides time efficiencies, and the aim is to complete all jobs in a 90-minute turnaround.

Customers are invited to wait in the modern lounge, which offers free Wi-Fi and refreshments, or drop off their car and return come back when convenient.

Quick Lane also uses an online, paperless service that provides instant two-way communication between the centre and customers.

The platform will provide live updates to the customer’s phone.

“Our policy is to always let you know what’s happening, jargon-free – and many Quick Lane services are menu-priced, so you know what the maximum cost will be upfront,” local manager Tim Bill said.

“Customers will receive ‘convenience with confidence’, knowing their vehicles will be serviced by expert technicians using the very latest technology and with no hidden extras or surprises.

“The Quick Lane approach is open and consultative – making recommendations for what needs to be done, so that customers can be in control of planning for their vehicle’s current and future maintenance needs.”

The pilot store in Hoppers Crossing, Victoria includes five service bays, with all services performed by trained technicians.

Quick Lane Tyre & Auto Centre handles servicing and light repairs for suspension and steering; transmission; wiper blades; air-conditioning; lamps and bulbs; belts and hoses; as well as cooling system maintenance.

Additionally, the comprehensive range of vehicle services and repairs include tyre fitment, rotation, balancing and wheel alignment, replacement of shock absorbers, brake services, oil and filter changes, batteries, alternators, starters and electrical services.

Customers receive a complimentary Vehicle Health Check every time they visit a Quick Lane for service.
