Electric bikes continue to come thick and fast, with another one announced this week by Volvo performance, now electric offshoot Polestar.

Polestar and Cake have collaborated on a special edition of the new Cake Makka compact electric bike, one that works best if you have a Polestar 2.

The Makka – Polestar edition by Cake makes its debut at the 2021 IAA Mobility show which has just opened in Munich.

Polestar edition by Cake has unique design, component features and upgrades that further align the brands’ shared desire to accelerate the shift towards sustainable mobility.

Fully electric powertrains by Cake and minimalistic design features by Polestar link the brands and vehicles even further.

The lightweight electric bike is specifically designed to be even more versatile when used in combination with Polestar 2.

Changes include a slim LED headlight, Öhlins rear damper, black detailing and a frame and battery cover in Polestar Snow matte.

The Polestar 2 electric performance fastback is the company’s first fully electric, high volume car.

The range comprises three variants with a combination of long- and standard range batteries as large as 78kWh — and dual- and single motor powertrains with an output as much as 300kW/660Nm.

A rear tow bar mount allows the bike to be transported and charged directly from the car while on the move.

Once parked, the bike can be used as a last mile commuter, general urban transport solution or even for off-road adventures.

“Makka – Polestar edition by Cake is the next step in our brand collaboration and it gives us a chance to tackle broader mobility challenges,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said.

“The lightweight bike connects with Polestar 2 via a cord that allows it to charge from our car, ready to tackle inner cities as well as explore the countryside.

“Together with brands like Cake, we are build momentum towards a more sustainable future.”

Cake is a Swedish electric bike manufacturer that builds light, quiet, and clean high-performance electric off-road motorcycles.

Its first model, the Kalk, debuted at Denver’s OR and Munich’s ISPO shows in January, 2018.

The Makka is its third model and comes in two guises, Makka range and Makka flex.

The Makka flex is the powerful version, with top speeds reaching 45km/h and a strong battery – a machine built to last.

Makka range is the long-range model, with top speeds reaching 25km/h – a dream tool for easy and convenient commuting.

“Instead of wasting time in a traffic jam, finding a parking spot or squashing up in a crowded train, together with the team at Polestar we want to make the future of mobility flexible, accessible and emission-free,” Cake CEO and founder, Stefan Ytterborn, said.

The bike will be a flagship product in the new Polestar Additionals web shop, which launches at the same time to a wider audience following an initial exclusive pre-launch for the Polestar community earlier in the summer.

The web shop will feature lifestyle products like T-shirts, hoodies, bags and water bottles, as well as Makka – Polestar edition by Cake.
