What’s a rally without Subaru?
Subaru Australia has just announced it will not compete in the 2020 Australian Rally Championship.
After four years of participation under the Subaru do Motorsport banner, the brand has decided to pull the plug and concentrate on marketing its performance cars in “other areas” — for the foreseeable future.
Other areas? They’re not saying.
The Australian Rally Championship (ARC) is remaining upbeat, citing the fact there will be plenty of private entries in the 2020 championship — just no factory team.
2016 ARC Champion Molly Taylor will be retained as Subaru brand ambassador, but her rallying plans for 2020 are still to be confirmed (watch this space).
The Subaru team distinguished itself with a win in the 2016 Championship, when Taylor became the first female and youngest driver ever to win the title — at the time.
Taylor will participate in a variety of events next year for Subaru, including customer promotions, drive days, dealer network and staff functions.
The 2016-18 seasons were conducted in partnership with Les Walkden Rallying, while Orange Motorsport was the provider in 2019.
