News that rock legend Eric Clapton is selling his Ferrari is no big deal. Old Slowhand owns a few of them and they go like the proverbial Clappers.
Of more note is that he recently sold a Lamborghini too, which means he’s either freeing up space in his not inconsiderable garage, or perhaps has fallen on hard times (blues).
Not one but two of the guitarist’s cars have popped up for sale on a UK auto trader site.
His Lamborghini Superleggera has already been snapped up for a rumoured £125,000, while his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano F1 is still there for the taking — priced at £89,900 from car dealer, GVE London (about $165,000 Aussie dollars).
Since hitting the big time, Clapton, also known by the stage name ‘Slowhand”, has shown a fixation for supercars, with a particular penchant for Ferraris.
Some may say it is ironic that Slowhand loves cars that are so fast, but this hasn’t stopped the rocker from amassing a t0-die-for collection.
He’s rumoured to have had more than 10 Ferraris over the years, with many of them an inspiration for his songs, and some gifted to him by mate and fellow musician, Beatle George Harrison.
The 6.0-litre V12 Ferrari 599 F1 is one of Clapton’s most desirable cars, although he has said in the past he prefers the 612 Scaglietti — an opinion many Ferrari enthusiasts would disagree with.
It has a beautiful contrasting Nero Daytona Black exterior on Castoror Light Brown interior with a killer Bose audio system installed – all the better for rocking out to.
With 456kW of power and 448Nm of torque, it does the sprint from 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of more than 330km/h.
Auto Trader’s Rory Reid said Eric Clapton is renowned for his classic car collection.
“And it’s well known how much he loves his Ferraris,” he said.
“He’s even made use of Ferrari’s secretive One-Off Program in the past for a reported £3 million, so you know he’s not messing around.
“This particular Ferrari 599 is stunning and so well-maintained.
“The fact it received Eric Clapton’s seal of approval before being sold on makes it that much more special.
“For a blues lover, who also has the money for it, this is a perfect buy on Auto Trader.”
