Subaru is taking orders for its next EV, called the Uncharted — due around the middle of this year.
It’s an all-electric alternative and sibling of sorts for the small, petrol/hybrid Impreza-based Crosstrek.
And, like the Solterra, it’s a reworked Toyota — in this instance the C-HR+ (coming next year).
Priced from $59,990, the Uncharted is a little smaller than the bZ4X, but not by much.
It’s described by the company as the product of everything Subaru has refined over decades of vehicle engineering.
The potency and precision of WRX, the balance and corner-carving agility of BRZ and the sure-footed, multi-terrain capability of its SUV range.
Two electric motors produce a combined 252kW of power with drive to all four wheels of course, being a Subaru.
The dash from 0 to 100km/h takes 5.0 seconds flat.
A 74.7 kWh CATL lithium-ion battery offers an estimated driving range of up to 522km (WLTP).
The battery can be recharged at a rate of up to 150kW using a commercial DC fast charger, from 10 to 80 per cent in about 30 minutes, they say.
With three-phase power, AC charging is possible at a rate of up to 22kW.
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive works alongside Dual-mode X-Mode with Grip Control, Downhill Assist Control and a Multi-Terrain Monitor to keep the Uncharted composed and confident, well beyond the edge of the sealed road.
With 211mm of ground clearance, Subaru says it is as prepared for the detour down an unsealed track as it is for the daily commute.
A 14.0-inch touchscreen puts navigation, media and vehicle settings within immediate reach, while a 7.0-inch LCD Multi-Information Display keeps critical vehicle data clearly in the driver’s line of sight.
A premium 10-speaker Harman Kardon audio system provides the accompaniment.
“The Uncharted needs to be experienced to be truly understood, it will surprise you in all the best ways,” Subaru’s Scott Lawrence said.
“It’s super energised, nimble, corners on a dime and makes you feel like the car constantly wants more from you.
“It carries the ground clearance of an SUV but the soul of a performance car.
“That’s the result of taking the best of Subaru engineering and pouring it into one exceptionally well-crafted Sport Electric Vehicle.”
Uncharted joins the updated Solterra and the all-new Trailseeker in Subaru Australia’s Sport Electric Vehicle range.
The all-new Subaru Uncharted arrives in Australia mid-year in one, feature-packed variant priced at $59,990 plus on-road costs.
A panoramic roof ($1200) or a panoramic roof with two-tone paint ($2400) are optional.
Pre-orders are open now through authorised Subaru retailers nationwide or via Subaru.com.au.
