Modern Mini has more special editions to its name than just about any other car in Australia, with the possible exception of the Ford Ranger.
The brand has offered special editions almost every year since the launch of the new Mini in 2002.
They’re a great way of generating additional sales for a model that essentially hasn’t changed much.
A quick count puts the number of special editions at 25, but there could be more.
The latest offering is the Mini 1965 Victory Edition, a tribute to the legendary Mini Cooper S that conquered Monte Carlo in 1965.
It’s limited to 30 vehicles in Australia, comprising 20 Mini John Cooper Works and 10 all-electric Mini John Cooper Works variants.
And it’s expected to arrive in showrooms by the end of June, with pricing to be confirmed closer to launch.
The latest special edition celebrates the 1965 victory of the classic Mini Cooper S in the Monte Carlo Rally, driven by Timo Mäkinen and co-driver Paul Easter.
Praised for its innovative engineering, exceptional agility and remarkable performance in extreme winter conditions, the Cooper S became a defining symbol of Mini’s racing DNA — a spirit that continues to shape the brand.
The Mini 1965 Victory Edition combines heritage design elements with modern performance and craftsmanship.
It’s finished in striking Chili Red, accentuated by a white bonnet stripe that extends seamlessly across the roof and rear.
A distinctive white “52” graphic on both sides references the race number of the victorious 1965 rally car, while a subtle “1965” badge on the C-pillar commemorates this historic achievement.
Inside, the door sills have illuminated white “1965” lettering on a red and black background.
Each model also features a plaque on the inside of the door that references the historic Monte Carlo victory.
Subtle heritage touches include:
- 1965 detailing on the 6 o’clock spoke of the sports steering wheel
- Lettering within the centre console feature
- The historic 1965 racing number displayed on the exclusive key cap
The Mini 1965 Victory Edition will be available in two high-performance John Cooper Works variants:
- Mini John Cooper Works: powered by a 2.0-litre TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine delivering 170 kW and 380Nm of torque, with 0–100 km/h taking 6.1 seconds.
- Mini John Cooper Works Electric: delivering up to 190kW, it sprints from 0–100 km/h in an impressive 5.9 seconds.
Mini reports interest is growing in the high performance John Cooper Works (JCW) models.
In 2025, the John Cooper Works range achieved record sales in Australia, representing 21 per cent of total Mini sales.
At the same time, electrified Minis accounted for 31 per cent of total Mini sales.
