Shark pack moves in for the kill

BYD has expanded its Shark ute lineup with the addition of two new versions including one with a tray.

The trade‑ready Shark 6 Dynamic Cab‑Chassis is priced from $55,900.

A new range-topping Performance variant has also been added, this one priced from $62,900.

The expanded line‑up covers the needs of trade, fleet and families, with superior Dual Mode (DM) Off-Road Super Hybrid performance, improved all‑wheel drive capability and refined on‑road comfort.

Shark 6 Performance, in particular, with more power and 3500kg towing capacity, is for customers with serious adventure in mind.

All three utes are powered by BYD’s Super Hybrid plug-in powertrain, with Dual Mode Off-Road (DMO) AWD architecture.

The 1.5-litre turbo DM Super Hybrid that powers the Cab-Chassis and current Shark 6 Premium develops 321kW of power and 650Nm of torque, enabling both to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds.

A larger 2.0-litre turbo DM Super Hybrid in the Performance boosts the total system output 350kW and 700Nm, pushing the ute to 100km/h in 5.5 seconds.

Fuel consumption is a claimed 1.3L/100km, provided the battery retains a 25 per cent charge or more.

With  two electric motors and a 29.58 kW/h Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery, there’s no danger of running out of juice.

The new Performance variant lifts braked tow capacity to 3500kg (Dynamic and Premium support up to 2500kg).

All versions feature double‑wishbone independent suspension front and rear, prioritising ride, comfort and handling.

A new ‘Crawl Mode’ debuts has been added to Performance, that vastly improves its off-road credentials beyond the existing ‘Mountain Mode’ which manages traction and braking performance across moderate slopes and uneven terrain.

It will be rolled out to existing Shark 6 Premium and Shark 6 Dynamic customers via an over-the-air (OTA) update later in the year.

A heavy-duty alloy tray is offered for the Cab-Chassis as a $5000 option, designed in partnership and manufactured by Ironman.

It measures 1679mm x 1809mm x 259mm, with easy fold-down or reach-over access, plus eight integrated tie‑down points and two lockable storage boxes, with an optional trundle tray.

The tray conforms to ADR 92/00 and all ADAS systems and maintains practical access to the Shark 6’s charging port and V2L interfaces.

It is supported by BYD’s six-year vehicle warranty.

With 6.6kW Vehicle‑to‑Load (V2L) capability and multiple 230V outlets (one in‑cabin, three in the tub) plus a V2L adaptor adding two more sockets, Shark 6 is ready to power tools, appliances and camping gear on the go.

Shark 6 Dynamic Cab-Chassis is priced from $55,900, Premium from $57,900 and Performance from $62,900 — all prices before on-road costs.

The Heavy-Duty Alloy Tray is price $5000, with fitting another $1155.
