Second-gen Benz GLB responds to feedback

The all-new GLB arrives in Australia with a choice of hybrid and fully electric powertrains.

It features a more upright front end, steep windscreen and short overhangs, but the same squared-off proportions.

Electric variants are distinguished by a striking radiator grille featuring 94 individually animated LED stars, creating a distinctive and unmistakably modern visual signature.

Hybrids adopt a more traditional approach, with the Mercedes-Benz pattern finished in chrome and framed by an LED light guide for an elegant and sophisticated appearance.

The hybrid comprises of the front-wheel-drive GLB 200, together with the all-wheel-drive GLB 220 4MATIC.

Both variants feature 48-volt technology and an electric motor integrated into the transmission, enabling efficient electric-only driving as well as energy recuperation.

The new fully electric range offered in Australia includes the GLB 250+ electric and GLB 350 4MATIC electric, each equipped with a nickel manganese cobalt battery that offers 85kWh of usable capacity — with 570km and 554km of range (WLTP).

All electric variants employ an 800-volt architecture and support DC fast charging at up to 320kW.

AC charging capacity is also available at up to 22kW.

The cleverly redesigned cabin provides additional rear legroom and longer thigh support for second-row occupants, with seven seats as standard.

A longitudinally adjustable second-row bench allows the cabin layout to be adapted to suit changing passenger and luggage requirements.

Young families are well catered for, with provision for up to five child seats across the second and third rows.

The rear luggage compartment offers 480 litres of capacity and up to 1605 litres when the rear seats are folded.

Electric variants add 127-litre front luggage compartment.

A 10.25-inch digital driver display and 14.0-inch centre touchscreen are standard.

The optional MBUX Superscreen builds on this digital experience with an additional  14.0-inch front-passenger display, integrating all three screens beneath a single surface.

Powered by MB.OS, the fourth generation of MBUX introduces a more intuitive and highly customisable user experience.

MBUX Virtual Assistant further enhances the experience through generative artificial intelligence, integrating technologies including ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini to enable more natural, conversational interactions.

In response to customer feedback, the all-new GLB re-introduces selected physical controls to make key functions more convenient to operate while driving.

The steering wheel features a rocker switch for the speed limiter and DISTRONIC, together with a roller for audio volume.

All variants also feature standard head-up display, projecting key driving information directly into the driver’s field of vision.

Prices for the four grades: $65,400 for the GLB 200, $76,100 for the GLB 220 4MATIC, $74,990 for the GLB 250+ electric and $86,200 GLB 350 4MATIC electric.
