Saddle up for a designer ride

Riley Riley

Vespa has brought new meaning to the term saddle bag with the help of design house Christian Dior.

Both founded in 1946, the Italian motor scooter manufacturer and the Parisian couture house have collaborated to produce the Vespa 946 Christian Dior scooter and accessory collection.

Monohull architecture and subtle graphic lines pay tribute to the heritage of the two houses.

The Vespa 946 was presented at EICMA 2012 and launched in 2013.

It is an innovative product which takes inspiration from the Vespa prototype MP6 produced in 1946.

The Dior collection was designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Creative Director of Dior women’s collections.

Echoing the design of the saddle, is a top case patterned with the Dior Oblique motif, designed by Marc Bohan in 1967.

It’s specially designed to be fixed on the luggage rack, adding a distinctive allure.

A helmet adorned with the same iconic motif rounds out the range.

Symbols of escape to new horizons, these limited-edition creations will be available exclusively in Dior boutiques and and a selection of Piaggio Group’s Motoplex stores.

The pulsating heart of the Vespa 946 is a single cylinder 125 cc 4 stroke, 3 valve, air cooled engine with electronic injection.

The scooter is finished in an exclusive colour made together with Dior creative Department, as well as the gold colour for the finishing touches.

The saddle is in real blue-leather with ton sur ton seams; the handles are covered with blue leather and the seams are ton sur ton.

The saddle support is realised with a “Dior Monogram” original fabric upholstery.

On the right side of the scooter are some exclusive decals with the “Christian Dior Paris” logo.

The hook placed under the saddle also bears the “Christian Dior” logo.
