Toyota’s full-size pick-up range is set to shine with the addition of the flagship Tundra Platinum.
Priced from a gobsmacking $172,990 plus on-road costs, Platinum joins the Limited grade, the latter priced from $155,990 plus on-roads.
Platinum builds on the Limited, with unique styling elements designed to enhance the big pick-up’s impressive on-road presence.
It features a chrome-plated, mesh front grille and side door trim, black tailgate handles and window surrounds, plus black 20-inch alloy wheels.
Both the Limited and Platinum are now offered with a powered tailgate, providing additional convenience for loading and unloading the cargo area.
Inside is black and blue leather-accented upholstery with 10-way power adjustment for the front passenger seat and four-way power lumbar support for both front seats.
The luxurious front seats also offer a massage function, while rear outboard passengers gain seat heating and cooling.
The steering wheel is also heated and provides powered memory tilt and telescopic adjustment.
A 10.9-inch colour head-up display provides additional convenience for the driver, along with rain-sensing wipers and LED tub lights.
Interior ambience is heightened with the inclusion of a panoramic roof, chrome door handles, tinted windows, Platinum badging on the instrument panel and ambient lighting.
Both grades are offered with a 14.0-inch multimedia system supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, paired with premium 12-speaker JBL audio and 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
Both grades are powered by the hybrid 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 i-FORCE MAX which produces a combined output of 326kW of power and 790Nm of torque.
The electric motor generator is placed between the engine and 10-speed automatic transmission in a parallel hybrid arrangement, enabling electric motor-only driving at low speeds, assistance for the engine, a stop-start system and energy regeneration from braking.
In two-wheel drive, power is fed to the rear wheels, with selectable four-wheel drive system and low-range gearing to help tackle low-traction terrain.
Tundra offers a maximum braked towing capacity of 4500kg, with two selectable towing modes which are tailored to offer maximum stability and controllability when towing.
Toyota’s Sean Hanely said the new Tundra Platinum would provide an even more luxurious experience for Tundra customers.
Platinum arrives in showrooms next month.
