Navara says bye-bye Warrior hello PRO-4X

Riley Riley

Nissan’s face-lifted Navara has broken cover along with a new hero model to lead the range.

Yesterday’s hero, the N-Trek Warrior, has been supplanted by another dulal cab model named the PRO-4X.

The auto is priced from $62,790, or $3000 more than the equivalent ST-X — but with on-roads about the same price as Warrior at $65,490 driveaway.

The pair have much in common, but some differences at the same time.

The twin turbo, 2.3-litre four cylinder diesel carries over, with 140Kw of power and 450Nm of torque — and a choice of 6-speed manual or 7-speed auto.

Warrior could carry a 724kg payload, while the Pro-4X is up for 1013 or 1004kg depending on whether it’s manual or auto.

Both can tow the same 3500kg braked load.

Both ride on 17-inch alloys too, Warrior with 275/70 series Coopers — Pro-4X with skinnier 255/65s.

Ground clearance however is down from 300 to 224mm.

That’s the basics. So what about the rest?

Well, like the Warrior, Pro-4X gets plenty of black bits — black roof rails, black sports bar (black stainless steel double tube with sail panel), black fender flares and black alloy wheels.

Then there’s black-painted grille, side steps, mirrors and door handles, together with leather-accented seats.

The big difference is that Warrior was outsourced to Melbourne-based Premcar, an automotive engineering outfit that beefed up the suspension, wheels and tyres — to give it a lift.

No mention of Premcar this time around . . .

New Navara boats a much stronger safety story however, with seven airbags, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning and Intelligent Emergency Braking as well as:

  • Intelligent Around-View Monitor with Moving Object Detection
  • Reverse Parking Sensors
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW)
  • Intelligent Lane Intervention (ILI)
  • Blind Spot Warning (BSW)
  • Intelligent Blind Spot Intervention (IBSI)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • High Beam Assist (HBA)

Standard fare includes a new 7.0-inch Advanced Drive-Assist instrument display, with a high-contrast 8.0-inch touchscreen that includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

The steering wheel has been redesigned, and seat trims further upgraded with leather-accented features available on ST-X and above.

Digital radio is standard on the ST grade and above.

Two new premium paint colours have been added, while Stealth Grey is exclusive to the PRO-4X.
