MG Motor Australia is about to add another MG4 to the portfolio, but it’s not an MG4 as we know it.
The award-winning coupe will be joined by the MG4 Urban, a bottom-feeding hatch in search of an enticing price.
It’s tipped to be around $30,000-35,000 when it gets here in the next few weeks.
MG says the all-new MG4 EV Urban is designed to make pure electric mobility accessible to more Australians — that’s car-speak for being cheaper.
It’s targeted at city slickers who don’t need a large car with a big battery, with a mix of specs, tech, and great value, well-received by European audiences earlier this year.
The front-wheel drive Urban sits on a different platform, compared to the RWD/AWD.
It comes in two versions: 43 kWh standard range and 54 kWh extended range, providing flexible electric mobility designed for the metropolitan commute, allowing owners to choose ‘exactly the right amount of EV’ to suit their needs.
The 43kWh version features a 110kW electric motor with 323km driving range (WLTP); the 54kWh extended range delivers 118kW and 415km (WLTP).
“Designed for how Australians live today, the MG4 EV Urban has room for four adults, gear with rapid DC charging capability from 10–80 per cent in around 30 minutes, helping drivers stay on the move,” MG’s Dimitri Andreatidis said.
“Whether you’re a driver seeking an accessible EV vehicle to suit their lifestyle, or wanting to reduce their environmental footprint, the MG4 EV Urban delivers the right combination of space, technology and efficiency.”
MG4 EV Urban pairs compact exterior dimensions with a surprisingly spacious interior.
Clever layout provides generous rear passenger room and large luggage capacity, expanding to over 1300 litres with the rear seats folded, makes it well-suited to everyday errands and active city lifestyles.
As cost of living remains top of mind and petrol prices continue to fluctuate, MG says the fully electric MG4 EV Urban offers greater cost certainty and freedom from fuel price volatility.
By charging at home or through Australia’s growing public charging network, drivers can enjoy lower running costs while contributing to reduced emissions in their communities.
