MG marque throws switch on first EV

MG is getting set to unveil its first fully electric model at the London motor show in a few days.

The ZS EV breaks new ground for the brand and its public debut will give potential buyers their first glimpse of the family friendly electric car.

Since it was first announced in March, MG has received 800 expressions of interest in the car, the most for any pre-launched model in the company’s history.

The ZS is currently offered in the UK with a 1.5-litre petrol engine, but in Australia it is also available with a 1.0-litre turbocharged three cylinder petrol engine.

In both countries it carries an industry leading 7-year warranty.

Head of Sales and Marketing at MG Motor UK, Daniel Gregorious, said the arrival of the ZS EV represents the start of MG’s long-term brand and product expansion plan.

“We are delighted to be able to share it with the British public for the first time,” he said.

“The arrival of the ZS EV adds a new dimension to the car market by offering hi-tech zero-emissions transport to a broader cross-section of buyers.”

MG is now owned by China’s SAIC Motor Corporation, one of the world’s largest automotive companies.

The brand name must still resonate with Brits however because it is the fastest growing car manufacturer in the UK, with a 104 per cent increase in sales since 2017.

Designed and engineered in Longbridge, Birmingham, MG’s range currently features the popular MG3 hatchback and two SUVs — the MG GS and the marque’s current best-seller, the MG Compact ZS.

Pricing and full specification of the ZS EV will be confirmed closer to the on-sale date of September 1.
