MG launches 7-seat SUV

With a growing number of hybrid and fully electric vehicles, MG has decided to take a more conventional route with its first seven-seat SUV.

Unveiled at the recent Melbourne motor show, the Rowe RX9 or MG QS as it will be known in Australia is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol- engine.

It’s a strategy employed successfully in the past, with models such as the MG3, MG ZS and MG HS, which were joined later by hybrid and EV versions –although we note the ZS is no longer offered in electric form.

Promising to bring unmatched value to the segment, QS is available in two variants: Excite and Essence, priced from $46,990 and $50,990 driveaway respectively.

But MG is quick to point out these prices are for a limited time only.

Both are powered by the same 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, delivering 153kW of power and 360Nm of torque.

The engine is paired with a conventional nine-speed auto, with drive to the front wheels or all four wheels depending on grade.

Fuel consumption is a claimed 8.4L (FWD) or 8.9L/100km (AWD).

Standard equipment includes cloth trim and three-zone climate air with rear controls, power adjust front seats, AM/FM/DAB radio, satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto plus an electric tailgate.

At 4983mm in length the third row of seats will provide comfortable space for the whole family, or fold down to offer extra space to pack for the next road trip.

MG Motor Australia’s Peter Ciao people have been asking us when it was bringing a large SUV to Australia.

“Families will be able to load up the QS, fitting more into everyday as they rush to pick up the kids, head to weekend sports and drop friends home,” he said.

Ciao said the QS was an important model in MG’s continued growth in Australia.

“The features included in both variants are of a premium standard and consumers will get more for their money.

“Once again we’re proud to deliver exceptional value for Australian motorists. MG is committed to this and you’ll continue to see this in the other exciting models we’ll be launching in Australia this year.”
