Mazda opens its charge account

You won’t get much change from $70,000 for Mazda’s first all-electric car.

Mazda has opened the order books for the MX-30 Electric which will be available in the one, top-spec Astina grade only, priced from $65,490 — that’s before on-road costs.

The five-year Mazda Service Select plan is priced at $1273.79.

If you want one, then you will need to register to access the initial release of 100 models, with deliveries set to start in August.

Comprehensively equipped, the Mazda3-based SUV boasts 18-inch alloy wheels, 12-speaker Bose premium sound system, windscreen heads up display, 360-degree camera, Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function and an exhaustive suite of safety tech that includes 10 airbags and front cross-traffic support.

“The first-ever MX-30 Electric is a bold statement for the brand as Mazda enters its second century of operations,” Mazda Australia’s Managing Director, Vinesh Bhindi, said.

MX-30’s electric motor generates 107kW and an instant 271Nm torque output, sent to the front wheels via a single-speed reduction gear transmission, with 200km of real-world emissions-free driving between charges.

. Both Type 2 AC and Combo 2 DC charging connections are mounted on the right rear fender.

Using an AC wallbox or public charger at 6.6kWh, the benchmark 20-80 per cent charge is completed in approximately three hours.

With a 50kWh DC charger this figure is reduced to only 36 minutes.

If you don’t have access to either of these, the car will be supplied with a portable charger which can be plugged into a standard 240V, 10A power point — which takes around 9 hours.

Mazda’s first-ever EV is also part of Mazda Finance’s Mazda Assured product. Offered over one to four-year loan terms, Mazda Assured provides a Guaranteed Future Value and lower monthly repayments and gives owners the option of trading-in, keeping or returning their vehicle at the end of the loan term.

The car is covered by a 5-year unlimited kilometre warranty, with an eight-year warranty on the lithium-ion battery pack.
