Mahindra has slashed the price of its mid-sized SUV the XUV700, hoping no doubt to stimulate sales.
Or it may simply be trying to off load existing stock in preparation for the arrival of the updated model, renamed the XUV 7XO.
The entry XUV700 AX7 has been cut from a retail price of $36,990 to just $29,990 driveaway.
Top of the range AX7L has been reduced from $39,990 to $33,990 driveaway.
No mention of the Black Edition which is priced from $43,990.
The Indian car maker says the reduced pricing further strengthens XUV700’s position as one of the most compelling value propositions in Australia’s highly competitive medium SUV segment.
It is powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four cylinder petrol engine that delivers 149kW of power at 5000 rpm and 380Nm of torque from 1750 to 3000 rpm.
Both versions of XUV700 are fitted with a conventional six-speed automatic transmission, with drive to the front wheels.
Standard equipment includes a panoramic sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and the digital instrument cluster, plus wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Both the AX7 and AX7L come equipped with a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Lane Keep Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.
The AX7L further enhances the package with a 360-degree surround-view camera, blind-spot monitoring, a knee airbag, ventilated front seats and a premium 12-speaker audio system.
We tested the car a couple of years ago and were pleasantly suprised.
However the sticking point remains the lack of a safety rating for Australia.
The ANCAP organisation is yet to test the vehicle as far as we know.
We can’t tell you how many cars Mahindra has sold here because like Tesla they do not report their sales figures.
