Kangoo back with a power pack

Renault has rejoined the Australian electric van market with its new Kangoo E-Tech.

It replaces the previous fully-electric Z.E. Kangoo on sale here from 2017 until 2022.

Renault has been a pioneer in electric mobility and a leader in electric commercial vehicles in Europe since 2011 with the Z.E. selling around 70,000 vehicles as well as nearly 200 here.

Kangoo E-Tech is available in both short- and long-wheelbase variants with a range of option packs.

The SWB variant will arrive in February, 2024, priced from $61,990 with the LWB joining it later in the year and selling from $63,990.

The lithium-ion battery has a fully usable capacity of 45kWh with a range of up to 285km on the WLTP cycle.

It’s located under the vehicle floor and has no impact on the cargo area capacity.

There is a choice of two charging methods:

  • Standard 22kW AC charger for rapid charging on public terminals
  • Optional 80kW rapid-charge DC charger that can recuperate up to 170km (WLTP) of range in just 27 minutes

The battery is fitted with liquid cooling capabilities.

The 90kW motor generates 245Nm of immediately available torque.

An Eco mode that caps the vehicle’s power output and top speed helps optimise range and is best used when carrying a light load.

There are three regenerative braking levels:

  • Sailing (B1) – limited regenerative braking, suitable for driving on motorways and faster roads
  • Drive (B2) – default regenerative braking that gives an ICE motor feel when taking the foot off the accelerator
  • Brake (B3) – maximum regenerative braking for use in heavier traffic and on steeper roads

Information pertaining to the selected driving mode, electric power management, and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) is displayed on a fully customisable 8.0-inch digital instrument panel.

There’s a range of innovations, equipment, and comfort features including the Renault Easy Link multimedia system with 8.0-inch display.

Three front seats with a central folding backrest turns into a mobile office, with over 40 litres of storage in the cabin.

The latest generation ADAS includes the option of Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go.

All-new Kangoo E-Tech is priced from $61,990.

The long wheelbase variant arrives later in 2024 priced from $63,990.

It is covered by a comprehensive five-year warranty but with distance limited to 100,000km.

Battery warranty is for 8 years and 160,000km.
