It’s the little things that mat (ter)

Riley Riley

Talk about going the extra mile.

Toyota has just issued a recall for the floor mats in some of its cars.

It seems it got the size wrong due and the shape of the driver’s floor mat may interfere with the driver footrest.

Yep. And before you go jumping to conclusions, Toyota is quick to point out that it does not in any way interfere with the operation of the brake pedal.

The recall sounds like something out of a Monty Python sketch, but while it might be insignificant — about 98 cars are affected in Australia.

World-wide it could turn out to be a costly little exercise.

Affected are GR Yaris automatics produced between May 6 and September 26, 2025 and fitted with the accessory floor mat (refer to table).

If your vehicle is one of those involved, Toyota dealers will replace the floor mat set, not just the driver mat — free of charge.

Here’s the best part though. Replacement is expected to take approximately 15 minutes.

We could clean the entire car in this time.

Even better . . . Depending on the dealer’s work schedule, owners may be required to make the vehicle available for an even longer period of time.
