How’s that old expression go? Something old, something new, something borrowed?

It might be applied to the newest entry to the Australian new car market, the iCaur V25 from Chinese car maker Chery.

Hands up who thinks it looks a bit like the GWM Tank 300 which in turn bears a resemblance to the ground-breaking Land Rover Defender (the new one).

Not only is the V25 a new model for Chery, but yet another sub-brand for the car maker which also markets vehicles here under the names: Chery, Jaecoo, Omoda and Lepas — and now ICaur.

iCar (renamed iCaur for export) is described as as expressive new energy brand (range of EVs), whose first products are set to appear here early 2027.

Founded in 2023, the company redefines how people connect with their cars, combining clean energy technology, attractive design, and a lifestyle-first approach to mobility.

Born for the city yet built for adventure, iCaur merges daring design, guided by the brand’s “boxy” design language highlighting bold aesthetics with full-electric performance,

V25 (pictured) has been confirmed as the first model to join the local line-up ahead of its official launch in 2027.

Developed to combine intuitive design with premium technology and everyday practicality, the V25 has been engineered for customers who want a vehicle equally at home in the city and beyond the bitumen (iCaur speak for off-road).

Featuring distinctive styling, a modern digital cabin and intelligent driver assistance technologies, the V25 introduces a fresh proposition to Australia’s rapidly growing SUV market.

iCaur’s Kate Gillis said Australia is one of Chery Group’s most important international markets.

“We’re delighted to introduce iCaur as the next step in our long-term growth strategy. iCaur brings a new energy to the market, combining striking design with advanced EV technology and a playful, user-centric spirit,” she said.

“Australian motorists have demonstrated a strong appetite for vehicles that combine style, technology and capability.

“The V25 has been developed to meet those expectations while bringing a distinctive personality that will appeal to customers looking for something different.

“As we continue expanding our portfolio, iCaur will allow us to reach a new generation of buyers who value adventure, individuality and innovation.”

The iCaur V25 will be showcased for the first time in Australia at Everything Electric Sydney between from September 18-20.

Pricing and further details will be announced closer to the vehicle’s launch.

The iCar brand was established as an electric vehicle brand in April 2023, following several previous usage of the trademark by Chery.

iCar started sales of its first vehicle, the iCar 03 SUV in February, 2024. In April 2025, the brand was renamed to iCaur for overseas markets due to trademark reasons.
