It’s as fast as a Ferrari, but Alfa’s GTA Giulia costs only half as much.
Alfa Romeo Australia has confirmed we’ll be getting 18 of the stylish heavy-hitters, priced from $268,000.
Sure, it’s not cheap, but that’s the price you pay for all that Italian lineage and 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds.
Giulia GTA and GTAm are based on the Quadrifoglio model, but fitted with a more powerful version of the 2.9-litre V6 Bi-Turbo engine that delivers 397kW of power.
The track-ready GTAm (modified) variant features a pair of racing seats, roll bar and 6-point safety harness.
The backroom boys have put the Quad on a diet to get the weight down, with extensive use of ultra-light materials to enhance performance.
Specific technical solutions have also been developed to improve the aerodynamics, alignment and handling, plus the addition of new 20-inch rims with a single locking nut — the first time in a sedan.
The titanium Akrapovič central exhaust system delivers an unmistakable sound.
In case you were wondering, GTA stands for “Gran Turismo Alleggerita”, the latter the Italian term for “lightened”.
It draws on Alfa Romeo’s rich racing heritage, specifically the 1965 Giulia Sprint GTA — along with other lesser GTAs along the way.
Following the global reveal in late 2020, a select number of Australian collectors and racing enthusiasts have secured one of the 18 limited vehicles, through a tailored consultation process following expressions of interest.
The majority of Australian orders have been placed for the race spec GTAm, with a limited number GTAs also reserved.
Only 500 of the cars will be produced worldwide, with deliveries expected to commence later this year.
Customers who’ve purchased the GTA will receive an Alfa Romeo GTA racing helmet and car cover, while GTAm customers will receive a full GTA racing kit — suit, gloves, boots, helmet and car cover.
With limited allocation numbers and high demand among Australian enthusiasts, there are currently no further Giulia GTA or GTAm performance sedans available for Australia at this stage.
GTA is priced from $268,000, while the GTAm stops the clocks at $288,000 — both prices exclude on-road costs.
“What makes this vehicle truly unique is the personalisation offered to the 18 fortunate Australians who will soon own a special piece of Alfa Romeo history, being one of the 500 vehicles produced globally,” Director, Marketing Communications for Alfa Romeo, Tom Noble, said.
“As part of the exclusive global program, the 18 Australian owners will receive a certified, numbered vehicle, and will further have the opportunity to personalise their GTA.
“Reminiscent of the spirit of the 1965 Giulia GTA, customers will select the liveries, the brake calipers, the interior stitching, seat belts and even the roll bar for those who’ve secured a GTAm. It’s a truly special experience.”
