Auction records look set to topple when two ultra low kilometre, mid-1980s Holden sports machines go under the hammer in a few days.

Up for grabs and expected to fetch more than $1 million, are a 1988 Holden VL Walkinshaw SS Group A and 1990 Holden VN SS Group A Build #180.

Lloyds Auctions are offering the cars in a timed online auction that starts at midday this Saturday, April 24.

“Who knows what these cars will sell for, they are already fetching well into six figures due to their limited build and extremely low kilometres,”

Lloyds’ Lee Hames said.

“We must remember the effect of the Holden closure in Australia where we have seen a trend of records broken since they closed.

“When selecting cars for their potential to increase in value it is important to tick several boxes — namely, rarity, heritage, and desirability.

“The VN Commodore SS Group A up for auction ticks all those boxes.”

Despite Group A rules, this is one of only 302 examples built and makes the iconic VN Group A SS build number 180 a highly sought-after model.

The VL Walkinshaw is in complete original condition and arguably the most collectable VL Walkinshaw in the country, with just over 1400km on the clock.

In Group A racing any carmaker that wanted to compete had to build a run of at least 500 production vehicles before they could put a car on the track.

It had to be built and sold to the public, but could have special features that enhanced performance and this was such a car.

These cars were built for racing and highly desirable. The VN was the last homologation special that Holden built for Group A before the rules were changed to the current Supercar formula which does not have these requirements.

These cars along with another 120 American, European and Australian classics will be auctioned next weekend on Saturday, April 24 from midday.
