Great Wall Motors (GWM) has added a plug-in hybrid version of its smaller Cannon utility to the range.
Described as Australia’s most versatile plug-in hybrid ute, the all-new Cannon Hi4-T Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) is engineered to seamlessly combine electric commuting, genuine four-wheel drive capability, long-distance touring and everyday practicality in one highly capable package.
It will complement the larger Cannon Alpha Hi4-T PHEV.
The Cannon range now spans two distinct models, three body styles and four powertrains, with diesel, hybrid and plug-in hybrid options from which to choose.
Unlike conventional hybrid systems, Hi4-T retains a traditional transmission and mechanical four-wheel drive system, ensuring capability is never sacrificed in pursuit of efficiency.
Developed specifically for body-on-frame four-wheel drive vehicles, Hi4-T intelligently integrates electrification with a traditional mechanical four-wheel drive system, preserving the core attributes Australian ute buyers demand, including genuine off-road capability, long-distance touring confidence and the capability expected of a modern ute, while delivering the refinement, responsiveness and efficiency of electrification.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with a high-output electric motor, producing a combined 310kW of power and 750Nm of torque, while delivering fuel consumption of just 2.9L/100km (WLTP).
A large-capacity 33.1kWh battery delivers a maximum 97km of electric-only driving range (WLTP).
When it’s time to leave the city behind, the petrol engine seamlessly extends driving range to an impressive 881km (WLTP), eliminating the range anxiety often associated with full battery electric vehicles and giving owners the confidence to tackle long-distance road trips and regional adventures.
Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability, including integrated 230V power outlets in the tub, transforms the Cannon Hi4-T into a mobile power source capable of running power tools on the worksite, camping equipment off-grid or household appliances wherever power is needed.
Whether it’s a weekday job site, a weekend campsite or a family holiday, the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV provides convenient onboard power while adapting to the task at hand.
Importantly, GWM will make this advanced electrification more accessible.
When local pricing is confirmed, GWM says the Cannon Hi4-T PHEV will become one of Australia’s most affordable plug-in hybrid utes.
