Genesis (aka Hyundai) has taken the wraps of a flashy new flagship called the GV90 EV.
Larger, heavier and considerably more ostentatious than the GV80, it will go ahead to head with the likes of Benz and Ranger Rover.
That means a price anywhere between $200K and possibly $250K, perhaps even more — when the 3-tonne monolith arrives Down Under.
As the battle continues for the hearts and minds of the Australian buying public, it looks like team Hyundai is getting ready to pile board the mothership for another planet — one where it can compete on price.
The 490kW fully electric GV90 with “coach doors” was revealed simultaneously in South Korea and the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco.
Rather than a clone of the Kia EV9 or Ioniq 9, it sits on the same platform as the GV60 but moves up the ladder to higher 800 watt architecture.
Genesis says the car symbolises the culmination of Genesis’ elevated hospitality ethos and expertise in thoughtfully applying technology.
Hyundai chairman Euisun Chung said GV90 is not simply a new vehicle, but a new vision for luxury mobility, one that brings together inspiring design, AI-powered software and connectivity and industry-leading safety.
“Technology alone does not create luxury, and design alone does not define luxury,” he said.
“The value of innovation lies in transforming the customer experience in intelligent and intuitive ways, to mprove people’s lives.
“True luxury is human freedom, and true luxury is beauty, expressed through craftsmanship, authenticity and commitment to excellence.
“Genesis will embrace these innovations to provide customers with differentiated value and experiences of distinction.”
In less than eight years, Genesis has become the fastest luxury brand to reach one million sales, based on distinctive design, class-leading innovation, and a relentless focus on customers.
The Gv90 represents its vision for the future while embodying the very best of Genesis, staying true to the distinctly Korean values of hospitality and craftmanship that have shaped our journey.
Its aim is to make every journey more elegant and elevated, embodying Genesis’ unique “Son-nim” hospitality philosophy – to treat each customer as an honoured guest – at the highest level (this stuff is gold).
GV90 will be available in two variants: Neolun, featuring the Neolun Arch Gate, the world’s first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach doors along with the standard GV90 with conventional doors.
It will also be equipped with an array of advanced technologies including the world’s first roof airbag, a 123.5 kWh high capacity battery, dual limited slip diff (E-LSD), multi-chamber air suspension and new power control system.
There’s also a pop-up center OLED cinematic display, Pleos Connect, smart parking assist 3, Bang & Olufsen’s Premier 3D sound system with Dolby Atmos and 25 speakers, ambient glow mood lighting, smart vision roof and a heated windshield.
If you fancy one, bear in mind there will be a strictly limited Neolun First Edition (for the marque’s elite customers).
With individual swivel seating for four in the back, it will feature three, two-tone paint schemes and 24-inch body-colour forged wheels.
Inside, there will be cashmere garnishes and First Edition engraving on the Crystal Sphere Controller, headrests, and doorsteps.
