Kia’s EV6 and the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric vehicles have been joined by the Genesis GV60 — all based on the same platform.

Hyundai’s luxury brand has revealed interior and exterior images of the fully electric SUV which sits on the Hyundai Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP).

GV60 is Genesis’ first EV and has been designed from the ground up for use exclusively as an electric vehicle.

Adding some drama and underlining the cutting-edge appearance, are digital exterior mirrors connected to the camera and monitor system.

Electric door handles also pop out automatically when the driver approaches the vehicle.

Genesis is still to reveal driveline details, but higher grades are sure to get the dual motor, all-wheel drive set up from the EV6 GT.

That means a 77.4kWh battery, 430kW of power, 740Nm of torque and a 0-100km/h time of 3.5 seconds.

The GT also gets an electronic limited-slip diff to stop the vehicle from breaking traction.

Hyundai-like two-tier quad lights add character some character to the look, while a wider and more athletic grille has been installed below the lights.

But it has not been closed closed off in an endeavour to increase the cooling efficiency of the underbody batteries.

GV60 sees the debut of a new slimmer winged badge, with the same Guilloché pattern seen in luxury watches.

In addition, Genesis has opted for a ‘Clamshell’ bonnet for the first time, a single panel that combines hood and fenders, removing panel gaps to create a sleeker look.

The interior is dominated by what Genesis describes as a ‘Crystal Sphere’, a sphere-shaped, rotating transmission selector that let’s you know when the vehicle is ready to go.

When the vehicle is turned off, it close again to become a mood light, adding to the aesthetic of the driving experience.

The floating console, where the Crystal Sphere is located, looks as if it is hovering in the air, working with other unique features such as the slim cockpit and flat floor to provide passengers with a maximum level of openness.

The dash is designed in a wide and slim shape to augment the interior, emphasising a hi-tech atmosphere with a wide-screen integrated indicator (cclC, connected car Integrated Cockpit) that connects with the cluster and AVNT (audio, video, navigation, telecommunication).

The “G” in GV60 represents Genesis, while the “V” represents versatility.

The number ‘60’ is the lowest in the Genesis line-up and comes as the brand evolves its naming scheme in line with a design identity of ‘Athletic Elegance.’

Going forward lower numbers will emphasise athleticism under the scheme, while higher numbers will represent elegance.

Based on this system, GV60 is Genesis’ most athletic model yet.
