Genesis GV70 takes fight to the Euros

Riley Riley

Hyundai’s luxury arm Genesis continues to expand its lineup of cars in Australia with the addition of a second SUV — the GV70.

The five-seat wagon comes out of the same nursery that delivered the Kia Stinger/Genesis G70 and the larger Genesis G80.

At 4.7 metres and with a wheelbase of 2875mm the GV70 is a rival for the Benz GLC, BMW X3 and Audi Q5 — not to mention the Lexus NX.

It features a choice of turbocharged petrol and diesel engines, with an 8-speed auto and drive to either the rear or all four wheels.

Prices start from $66,400 plus on-roads for the turbo four, $71,676 for the diesel or $83,276 for the twin turbo V6

Matte paint adds $2000 to the price, while there are also three option packs from which to choose.

The Luxury pack — $6600 on the V6 and $11,000 on the others — includes Lexicon by HARMAN audio, with 16 speakers and 1050
watts.

GV70 offers a comprehensive user profile system that can be accessed by the brand-first standard Fingerprint Authentication System.

It allows up to two fingerprints to link the driver to their very own Personalised User Profile.

Standard safety is extensive and includes eight airbags, pop-up bonnet for pedestrian protection, blind-spot collision avoidance assist, blind spot view monitor, driver attention warning with leading vehicle departure alert, forward collision avoidance assist with pedestrian and cyclist detection plus evasive steering assist, along with high beam assist, intelligent speed limit assist, lane keep assist and multi-collision braking.

Launch control propels the 2.5 T-GDi from 0~100km/h in 6.1 seconds, the 2.2 VGT variants in 7.9 seconds and high performance 3.5 T-GDi in an impressive 5.1 seconds.

  • 2.5T – 2.5 litre turbocharged inline 4 cylinder petrol engine, with 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque, in either rear- or all-wheel drive form.
  • 2.2D – 2.2 litre, all-aluminium inline 4 cylinder turbo-diesel engine is available, outputting 154kW of power and a high 440Nm of torque, available exclusively with all-wheel drive.
  • 3.5T – 3.5 litre, twin-turbocharged petrol V6 with 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque, also exclusively paired with an electronically controlled all-wheel drive along with an electromechanical limited slip differential (e-LSD) on the rear axle.
