Electric Solterra on a roll

Riley Riley

Subaru’s first fully-electric car the Solterra has begun to roll off the boat.

Solterra is available in two grades: AWD ($77,990) and AWD Touring ($83,690) — both prices before on-road costs.

Two-tone paint adds $1200 to the price.

The price includes a complimentary five-year service plan plus five-year roadside assistance, a carpet mat set, cargo tray and 2kW (8A) AC charging cable with 10A wall plug for charging.

Solterra takes its name from the Latin words for sun and earth — sol and terra.

Like the BRZ/86, Solterra is a shared development and sits on the same platform as the Toyota bZ4X.

This platform was jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru, with Toyota receiving credit for battery and eAxle development and Subaru for all-wheel-drive control and collision safety.

At 4690mm in length, Solterra is comparable in size to a RAV4 but with a 2850mm the wheelbase it is large inside,

With two electric motors, one for each axle, Solterra delivers 160kW of power and 337Nm of torque, and has a range of 414km (WLTP).

The 71.4kW battery can be charged from 20 to 80 per cent in as little as 30 minutes with a 150kW DC charger, while a single phase 7kW home charger takes seven or eight hours.

Solterra is designed to venture off the bitumen with a class leading 212mm of ground clearance and Dual Mode X-Mode that works with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive (AWD).

This driver-activated feature is designed to be used when road conditions become particularly treacherous or challenging, such as in slippery or icy weather, on steep hills, or in muddy terrain.

Solterra also includes a new Grip Control function.

AWD rolls on 18-inch wheels with cloth trim and dual-zone climate-control.

The cabin features a digital rear view mirror, 12.3-inch touchscreen, six-speaker audio with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.

AWD Touring steps up to 20s and comes with artificial leather trim, plus a panoramic sunroof and 10-speaker Harman Kardon sound system.

The following charging bundles are available for purchase via the authorised Subaru retail network or via Subaru.com.au when making an online purchase.
