Cupra’s first electric SUV Tavascan goes on sale

CUPRA will introduce a new level of design and dynamics to the fully electric medium SUV segment in April, with the sharp-steering Cupra Tavascan arriving with an equally sharp price tag – from $60,990 (plus on road costs).

The Interior Package (Endurance) adds $4500 to the price; the Extreme Package (VZ) $8000 (from mid-2025].

Cupra is another one of those companies that persists in referring to itself in all-capital-letters, about as annoying as Donald Trump referring to himself in the third person.

The Tavascan is the Barcelona-based brand’s new flagship model – its first all-electric SUV coupe; second battery-electric vehicle (BEV) after the Cupra Born; and the first vehicle to display Cupra’s striking future design language.

Designed for drivers while commodiously accommodating the whole family, the Tavascan delivers 545Nm of torque, up to 534km WLTP range and finely honed handling with rear-wheel drive as standard.

Cupra is taking orders now, with just the one fully equipped model priced from $74,490.

Standard equipment for the Tavascan Endurance includes 19-inch black and silver Vulcano alloy wheels, new signature LED headlight design with triangular DRLs, illuminated front and rear Cupra emblems, and power tailgate with ‘kick’ sensor.

There’s also smart entry with ‘sit-to-start’ functionality, three-zone climate system with rear control, a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless app connectivity, wireless smartphone charging, adaptive cruise control with ‘follow to stop’, active Lane Assist and semi-autonomous Travel Assist, Front Assist (with pedestrian and cyclist detection), Turn Assist, Side Assist, Exit Assist (rear cross traffic alert) and front/rear parking sensors with rear camera.

White Silver or Atacama Desert paint is included at no additional cost.

The Interior Package for the Endurance is available from just $4500, including 20-inch Heckla alloy wheels, 360-degree top view camera, ‘Dark Night’ microfibre power front seats with heating and memory, illuminated scuff plates, ambient interior lighting and the all-new premium 12-speaker Sennheiser audio system.

The Tavascan VZ adds all-wheel drive and moves from 210kW to 250kW of power, lowering zero to 100km/h acceleration from 6.8 to 5.5 seconds. The WLTP range is 499km.

It further adds the features of the Interior Package, plus 21-inch Katla alloy wheels in copper, Matrix LED headlights with adaptive high-beam and fixed panoramic glass roof with electric sunblind.

A range-topping Extreme Package (set to arrive in mid-2025) adds $8000 to the Tavascan VZ, bringing a Nappa Leather interior in Enceladus Grey, 21-inch Etna alloy wheels, bolstering ‘Cup Racing’ bucket front seats with seat ventilation, and sticky performance tyres.

Two premium paint options, Tavascan Blue and Basalt Grey, can be selected at an additional cost of $800.

Every Cupra BEV includes a five-year, unlimited kilometre warranty, an eight-year, 160,000km high-voltage battery warranty, and the option to purchase pre-paid service plans from $990 for three years.
