1) Horizon Zero Dawn
In a year of stunning releases, any game in the top three could have ended up taking out line honours. However, Zero Dawn just nosed ahead by a whisker, because it brought some really fresh and new concepts to the table. Imagine a world populated by sentient robotic wildlife that behaves like we’d expect normal wildlife to? Now add to this a beleaguered human population, forced to resort to tribal existence and compete with the robotic herds for living space. This is what you get with Zero Dawn, but the game offers so much more. There is also a really deep and engaging character development model and the relationships between the major characters are also as compelling and believable as we have seen in any completely new adventure game. Further the world of Zero Dawn is populated by an ecosystem that makes sense and offers new and exciting challenges, as you explore new areas. No game feels more complete, unique and engaging and that is why we gave it the top gong in our 2017 count down. If you have a PS4 and don’t have this game it is a corker!
