Chery has unveiled the KP31 ute concept at an event in Sydney.

With the production version expected in showrooms towards the end of the year, KP31 will be the world’s first ute to feature a Plug-in Hybrid diesel powertrain.

The 2.5-litre turbocharged engine will offer class-leading thermal efficiency rated at 47 per cent, while also being 10 per cent more fuel efficient compared to the average diesel powertrain.

Additionally it will provide a competitive 1000kg payload and 3.5-tonne tow capacity.

NVH levels are also a major focus with the production version providing a 30 per cent vibration reduction compared to the average diesel powertrain.

KP31 measures 5610mm long, 1920mm wide and 1925mm tall, but the production version will be slightly shorter at 5450mm.

It features large Chery lettering front and rear, a snorkel, chunky 285/70 series all-terrain rubber, a tub rack with 4×4 recovery tracks and is finished in matte grey paint.

A petrol PHEV will also join the line-up in 2027, with more details to be revealed closer to the official launch later in the year.
