Canyon concept cranks it up a notch

Check out GMC’s Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX concept which highlights a growing desire for premium yet capable utes and SUVs.

Building on the Canyon AT4, the concept enhances Canyon’s off-road credibility by showing how it could be further customised for a 4×4 enthusiast.

Based on the Chevrolet’s Colorado ZR2 (there’s a familiar name), it’s powered by a 3.6-litre V6 paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The concept boasts a 27.7-degree approach angle and ground clearance of 250mm, boosted by 33-inch BFGoodrich KM3 Mud-Terrain tyres on 17-inch AEV Crestone wheels.

Water fording is a claimed 815mm, and its custom-tailored snorkel could allow for filtered and cooler air intake.

All concept features are integrated with GMC’s premium design cues, resulting in a rugged-yet-premium appearance.

Unique grille and headlight finishes, distinct AT4 badges, and an exclusive leather-wrapped interior, create a sense of confident capability that does not compromise style or comfort.

GMC introduced AT4 in its Sierra light-duty pickup truck in 2019, positioned as a unique persona meant to offer bold capability while maintaining the innovative technology and premium appointments associated with the brand.

It has since expanded across the entire GMC lineup and continues to gain popularity, with more than 30 percent of Canyon buyers choosing AT4 this year.

GMC says Canyon is also attracting new customers to the brand, with more than half of buyers in 2021 new to GMC.

Canyon AT4 OVRLANDX concept is designed for off-road enthusiasts, with features that include:

  • Factory-lifted, wide off-road chassis with enhanced underbody coverage
  • Off-road rocker panel protectors
  • Cast-iron control arms
  • Heavy-duty front bumper with winch
