Little more than a month after turning production facilities over to making ventilators, Indian carmaker Mahindra has announced a refreshed version of its PikUp ute.

Priced from $23,990 driveaway for the 4×2 single cab version with a tray, it sports a redesigned grille, bonnet, and fog lights, plus higher grade models get daylight LEDs and static-style, fixed cornering lights.

The mechanicals remain the same however, with a 2.2-litre turbo diesel that produces 103kW of power and 320Nm of torque, the latter available from 1500 to 2800 engine revs.

Transmission is via a 6-speed manual gearbox with drive to the raer wheels in 4×2 models, along with Dana Spicer axles and an Eaton self-locking rear diff — but no auto in sight.

With a heavy-duty ladder frame chassis, the ute can carry a 1095kg payload and has a braked towing capacity of 2500kg.

Fuel consumption is rated at 8.6L/100km for single cab models and 8.8L/100km for dual cab versions.

Mahindra launched PikUp here way back in 2007. Not much has changed since then — although they can’t seem to settle on whether the name is PikUp or Pik-Up with a hyphen?

It comes in two specification levels: value for money S6+ and the better spec’d, more SUV-like S10+.

S6+ now features Bluetooth, cruise control, and upgraded cloth-trimmed seats with arm rests and driver’s side height adjustment.

S10+ adds an upgraded 7.0 inch touchscreen with high resolution reverse camera and satellite navigation.

New to the 2020 range is an optional Pastoral Pack that targets rural, trade and fleet buyers.

It includes a steel bull bar (winch compatible),  side brush rails, bash plate, snorkel and tow bar, plus canvas seat covers and vinyl flooring — and is priced at $35,990 driveaway with standard GPA (General Purpose Aluminium) Tray.

Upgrade options include galvanised steel and colour coded trays, along with other factory accessories.

PikUp is available in four colours: Arctic White, De-Sat Silver, Napoli Black and Red Rage.

It’s backed by a factory 5-year, 100,000km limited warranty, 5-year roadside assistance and 4-year, 55,000km capped price service program.
